The Importance of Celebrating Your Sobriety Anniversary With AA medallions!

For those from the recovery community, every individual who stays sober every 24 hours is a huge achievement. This surely calls for some celebration. If you have stayed sober for more than one year, it is an annual milestone, and this is when you can gift yourself a 1 year AA medallion. The medallions signify your sacrifice and progress and help you to stay motivated and focus on the road ahead.

The sobriety milestone primarily serves as a reminder of the progress you have made on the path of recovery. Most of the people who are in recovery don’t have any idea about the date of the sober anniversary.  Usually, it generally falls on the date you joined the recovery program or the day you become sober and stayed away from alcohol. This is a battle you have to fight on your own. While all possible support and motivation will be made available, it is you who has to keep on fighting.

How to celebrate sobriety?

Well, you don’t need a reason to celebrate your sobriety anniversary. Nevertheless, the anniversary in itself has a larger significance. However, there are a few things that you must keep in mind.

Remind you to stay humble: It doesn’t matter if you have stayed sober for 1 day or 1 year. The fact that you joined a recovery program and had gone through all the pain to reform and progress speaks volumes about your character. In the meantime, you also had the support of your family and peers, and members from the Alcoholics Anonymous group. No matter what, this gives you an idea about what people think about you and that you are not alone in this journey. This whole process helps you to stay humble and further opens up a whole new world of opportunity.

An opportunity to thank your mentors: Your success is incomplete without the active contribution of your mentors and peers. Remember, you will never be here without their guidance. On the occasion of your sobriety anniversary, just make a conscious effort to reach out to them and invite them for dinner at your home.

Get your medallion at your next AA meeting:  If you have been sober for more than 5 years and have enrolled in a program, then do make sure to get the 5 year AA medallion. This way, you stand to celebrate this special occasion with people who matter most to you, and it also is a testimony of your achievement.

Keeping doing the good work, and this will invariably make you happy as well as those near to you.
